The time has come to select your 2019 Student Committee members. The SPSP Student Committee, one of the association’s most active committees, works to promote the interests of SPSP’s graduate and undergraduate student members. Their work includes producing a student focused monthly newsletter, SPSPotlight, liaising with committees across SPSP on behalf of the student voice, and organizing and executing events and activities specifically for students at the annual SPSP convention as well as year-round. All current undergraduate and graduate student members, as of November 7, 2018, will be emailed a ballot to vote.
In an effort to improve transparency in the election of Board members and appointment of committee members, the SPSP Board of Directors approved a new structure for its Nominations and Elections Committee. At this time, SPSP seeks initial members of this new committee.
With National Science Foundation funding, the Society for Personality and Social Psychology is pleased to offer a two-week intensive summer school for up to 100 pre-doctoral students in Social and Personality Psychology. Since its first session in 2003, the Summer Institute in Social and Personality Psychology (SISPP) is offered in odd-numbered years. Applications are now being accepted for the 2019 SISPP, to be hosted at New York University, July 14-25, 2019. The faculty organizers for SISPP 2019 are Professors Tessa West and Jay Van Bavel, and the grad student coordinator is Oana Dumitru.
SPSP believes that personality and social psychologists have important perspectives to offer to the public discourse, and one of my goals as Member-at-Large for Outreach & Advocacy is to increase the number and diversity of voices from our discipline that contribute to the marketplace of ideas.
